Honouring Truth and Reconciliation

Sep. 26, 2022

Content warning: this statement contains references to the residential school system.

Later this week, on September 30, Canada will mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. I am proud that ASEBP will be joining people and organizations across the country in recognizing this important day.

MyRetiree Plan: 2022 Plan Design Changes

Sep. 21, 2022

To ensure that ASEBP provides covered members with a plan that supports them— not just today but also tomorrow— we spent time this past year thoroughly reviewing the MyRetiree Plan options. This audit, together with feedback received from covered members and employer groups, has led to the following changes to the MyRetiree Plan.

Another School Year is about to Begin

Aug. 16, 2022

The hallways and head offices may still be quiet but soon enough students will be flooding in, and education workers will be placing the finishing touches on their preparations for a fresh school year.

September is just around the corner, and, for the public education sector, with it comes a feeling of excitement, nervous anticipation, and joy for a new beginning. Knowing that the months ahead hold so much promise is truly invigorating for all of us here at ASEBP, and I hope it is for you as well.

Severe Weather in Southern Alberta

Jun. 17, 2022

The heavy rainfall, wind, and flood warnings in southern Alberta might remind you of past severe weather events. Wild weather can create uncertainty and stress, especially when it affects our communities and those we care about.

When the unexpected happens, it’s normal to worry. In these situations, try and focus on things that are within your control, such as placing valuables in water-tight containers or putting together a grab-and-go bag if you live in an area at high-risk for flooding.

Saying So Long to Paper ASEBP ID Cards

Jun. 22, 2022

Starting July 1, 2022, ASEBP will no longer automatically mail paper copies of your ASEBP ID cards out to you.

In our increasingly digital world, it makes sense for us to do away with this paper-based process—especially since it accounts for the highest rate of returned mail we receive at our office! Not only will this change save ASEBP time and money, but it’s more convenient for you as well.

Asian Heritage Month

May. 2, 2022

*For a description of the special version of ASEBP’s logo depicted above, please see the end of this article.

May is Asian Heritage Month here in Canada, which provides us with a wonderful opportunity to recognize and thank all Asian Canadians for the meaningful ways they have influenced—and will continue to influence—our past, present, and future.

Scheduling Calls with ASEBP

Jun. 6, 2022

Back in May, we released the ability to schedule video meetings and phone calls with ASEBP benefit specialists for only MyRetiree Plan-related questions. However, we’re happy to announce we’ve now expanded this offering to all covered members for general benefit-related questions!

Our 2020-21 Annual Report is Now Available

Mar. 15, 2022

We’re proud to share that our 2020-21 Annual Report, themed around creating a vision for the future of ASEBP and how we’ll achieve it, is now available.

When the new plan year started in September 2020, we all had a vision for what the year would bring. Little did we know, the pandemic would continue to have other plans for us. And while continuing another year of remote working, teaching, and learning may not have been what we expected, we certainly didn’t allow it to stop us.
